Who Am I ?

A little bit about Dog King…

My Journey
My name is Ben Reinbold, I’ve loved, lived, and worked with dogs throughout my life, but it was during my last four years in Haiti that the idea for Dog King was seeded in my mind. Facing some serious security concerns over there, I acquired Loki, a Belgian Malinois puppy, to train as my personal protection dog. He became my constant companion—at work, at home, and everywhere in between (he’s the dog in all the pictures on the site, apart from the homepage).
I’d had dogs before but I’d never gone into such depth with the training, and also never had to rely on a dog so much. The bond we developed through mutual trust, reliance and clear communication opened my eyes to another level of what’s possible between humans and dogs.
I’ve recently returned to the UK but unfortunately I’ve had to leave Loki behind for time-being until I can find a way to get him out. He’s in good hands, but I miss him dearly and really hope I can get him back to me soon.

My approach
Whether teaching new behaviours or correcting problematic ones, the methods aren’t usually too complex but nonetheless each dog and owner relationship have their unique characteristics. More often than not the challenge is establishing consistency, structure and repetition—on the owner’s part! Teaching humans how to behave can sometimes be the tricky bit.
I firmly believe that more control you have over the dog, the deeper the trust in the relationship. This leads to more freedom for your dog, less stress for you, and more enjoyment for everyone – sounds good to me!
While Dog King currently focuses on everyday obedience and behaviour, my background in protection training provides unique insights that can help everyday dog owners build focus, confidence and impulse control—creating dogs that are reliable in any situation.

Experience, expertise and Qualifications
I worked as a dog walker for 3 years during which time I also worked on the behavioural aspects of the dogs. During my last 4 years in Haiti I helped train german shepherds and Belgian Malinois. I did this for my own protection but not as a job, nonetheless the experience was invaluable.
I’m continuously refining my skills through experience, reading and importantly my apprenticeship with Craig Howarth (evok9.co.uk), a former Metropolitan Police firearms support unit K9 handler with over 20 years of real-world experience.
This mentorship and the network it provides give me access to a vast wealth of knowledge and connections I can draw on whenever I’m tackling complex cases.
I am about to complete the British College of Canine Studies level 4 PETbc Advanced Canine Behaviour Diploma.
I have decoying experience and will soon be completing an intensive decoying course with ApexK9.
Having a dog should be one of life’s greatest joys, and I will always do my best to make that the case for you and your canine companion
